Beacon Hose is starting a new fundraising tradition this fall with the inaugural Beacon Hose “Beacon-Holio” Cornhole Tournament!
The tournament is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at Beacon Hose. (Registration and shootaround will begin at noon.) It’ll be an all-afternoon affair with big cash prizes on the line. The nuts and bolts of the tournament are below; click here for the rules, which will be the same as those used by the American Cornhole Organization.
- $100 entry fee per team (two players per team)
- Tournament is open to everybody — especially our friends from other departments
- Event is rain or shine (in the event of inclement weather, we will move inside the firehouse)
- Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, as determined by the elimination tournament at the end of the day (the more teams that enter, the higher the prizes will be — but they’ll be hefty regardless)
- Lunch (pulled pork, cornbread, macaroni and cheese are expected to be on our menu) will be included for players; spectators can purchase lunch for a small cost
- Beer and special drinks (for those 21 and older) will be available for a small cost
- Eight courts will be set up to regulation dimensions, so everybody gets to play a whole lot of games
- Teams will play several round-robin games, and teams will be seeded for the elimination tournament by record in pool play
- All teams will advance to the elimination tournament, which will be single-elimination series (best-of-three and best-of-five, depending on round)
