Enter Fire Marshal’s Home Fire Safety Challenge

Update: The contest is over, but these materials are still useful!

We shouldn’t forget about fire drills and fire safety just because everybody’s been home for much of the last few months — in fact, in some ways, staying sharp on fire safety is more important than ever.

The Beacon Falls Fire Marshal’s Office is sponsoring its first Home Fire Safety Challenge this year! We at Beacon Hose are thrilled to be a part of this challenge, which is designed to bring fire drills to you and make your home a safer place.

2020 Beacon Hose Carnival Canceled

UPDATE (8/20/2020): Unfortunately, due to the continuing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 carnival has been canceled. We hope to bring back the event in 2021! Thanks for your support. The original post is below.

We regret to announce that the 2020 Beacon Hose Carnival, which was scheduled for June 11-13, is being indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of factors went into our decision, but the top consideration was the health and safety of our community and our members. Nobody looks forward to life returning to some sense of normalcy more than us, but based on the latest guidance, our society will not yet be in a position in mid-June during which we can encourage large gatherings.

We hope to be able to reschedule the event for sometime later in the year, but only if conditions permit us to do so safely — a decision that will be made in conjunction with public health and elected officials. Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest updates.

BHC Remembers Past Asst. Chief Kevin Swan on 10-Year Anniversary

kevin-swan-headshotWe remember Past Asst. Chief Kevin Swan, whom we lost in a line-of-duty death in 2010, 10 years ago today.

Kevin died March 10, 2010, after suffering a heart attack while responding to a call. He was the captain of the Beacon Hose Fire Police at the time. He was a member of our department for nearly 50 years, during which time he served as assistant chief and an active member of our area’s two major chiefs’ associations.

Beacon Hose bestowed full honors upon Kevin’s passing, including a funeral procession down Main Street led by our 1929 Seagrave.
